An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum", Thursday, January 15, 1976: Rev. M. E. Fairchild, 83-year-old Baptist minister who resided on Levita Road, died suddenly Sunday morning at the home of his son, Ellis Fairchild, Rt. 3, Gatesville. Rev. Fairchild had lived in the Gatesville area the last 30 years. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Eastwood Baptist Church, with Rev. Joe Broadway and Rev. Howard Schutt officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge. A native of Gillespie County, Rev. Fairchild finished high school at San Marcos Baptist Academy in 1920. He graduated from Baylor University in Waco in 1926 and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1932. He began his ministerial career in 1915 and pastored churches in Central Texas until going to the First Baptist Church in Hale Center. He became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Menard in 1940. He entered the Army during World War II and served as a chaplain from 1943 to 1945, including a tour of duty in Italy. Rev. Fairchild came to the Gatesville area after the war and pastored churches in the Mountain and Arnett communities. He organized the Eastwood Baptist Church in Gatesville in 1954 and was its pastor until 1960, when he went on a semi-retired status. He later pastored the First Baptist Mission here and handled other preaching assignments. He had also been engaged in livestock farming here since 1946. Rev. Fairchild married Cordelia E. McBeth June 25, 1915. She died in 1971. Survivors include one son, Ellis Fairchild of Gatesville; two brothers, Harvey Fairchild of Fredericksburg and Perry Swift Fairchild of Denison; a granddaughter, Mrs. Howard Schutt of Floresville; and two greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers for' Rev. Fairchild's funeral were Sevoy Ogden and deacons of the Eastwood Baptist Church. From Texas Marriages, 1837-1973: Name: M.E.
