An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, May 20, 1993: James Alford Doherty of Waco died May 11 at the VA Medical Center. He was 78. Graveside services were held Friday at Restland Cemetery. He was born March 28,1916, in Scurry, son of the late Henry James and Cordie Huff Doherty. Mr. Doherty moved to Gatesville in the 1930s. He was a carpenter at Fort Hood for many years. Survivors include two foster children, Montie Maxwell and Billy Morgan, both of Gatesville; one sister, Donie Council of Mesquite; and two brothers, Monk Doherty and Homer Doherty, both of Ennis.
