G. Cleo May Kness, 94, died Dec. 16, 2005, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born Sept. 28, 1911, in East Lynne, Mo., the daughter of Frank L. and Buelah M. Moore Newman. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1929. She was a homemaker and had a religious program on KSOK Radio Station of Arkansas City in the early 1950s, then went to BOTT Radio in Kansas City, where she was the first woman in religious broadcasting in the late 1960s. She supported a number of radio and TV evangelists. She married Paul W. Morton. He died June 23, 1972. In 1951, she married Donald A. Kness in Arkansas City. He died Oct. 14, 1993. Survivors include: a daughter, Pat L. Morton Wahlenmaier and husband Irvin H., Weston, Mo.; a sister, Lou Belle Swafford, La Vista, Neb.; four grandchildren, Chris, David and Steve Wahlenmaier, and Lisa Phillips; and three great-grandchildren, Chris, Mandi and Katie Wahlenmaier. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Newman, and Wilbur F. Newman; and a sister, Bernadine Corlett. Graveside service will be at noon Monday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The casket will be closed.
