Bio

Dora Patterson Dora, the youngest of ten children, must have been the reality of the old saying, "the best are saved for the last," since she cannot remember ever having done anything which could be called naughty. No doubt her parents, Henry and Lucinda Wilson George, enjoyed their baby as they farmed in Collin County, Texas near Gray Bill town where Dora was born Nov. 27, 1889. To teach school in Sanger which she attended she fearful walked the railroad track for two miles each day both morning and evening. The trains never bothered. On April 20, 1908, when she was eighteen years old she married a neighbor, Frank Patterson. While they still lived in the community Frank Patterson built a bridge which is still standing and in use. There they also welcomed the first of their nine children, Willie Mae. Following her was Hugh Robert who died at the age of twenty-one months of Woodville, Okla. After his going the family moved to Altus where Argie and her twin who didn't live were born. Then on to Fort Sill in a covered wagon for Mr. Patterson to work during WWI. After the war, they again loaded up the covered wagon and moved to Chickasha to work. Then on to Carnegie where he farmed with Mr. T.S. Carter for two years. Raymond was born here, and Junior was born in 1920 while they were living south of Mountain View. They later moved to the Jenny D. Wilson farm where they lived 7 years. Alvie and Ruth were born there. In 1930 they ran a filling station south of Carnegie before moving to the Alden community where the youngest child, Billy, was born in 1931. The last twenty-five years of his life Mr. Patterson lived one-half mile east of Carnegie. These years were called the time of his retirement, but he was never idle. On Dec. 6, 1972, just four months before their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary, Mr. Patterson left this world, and his wife soon decided to move to town in the home she still maintains to enjoy the visits of her children and the many "grands." Although she is now past ninety she seldom misses church or Sunday School. What a pioneer! Today the family consists of the seven children; Raymond of Fort Worth, Alvie of Houston, Junior of Marlow, Bill of Harrisonville, Mo., Ruth (Mrs. Jack Riffe) of Owatoma, Minn., Argie (Mrs. Raymond Harrison) and Willie Mae (Mrs. Virga Luttrell) both of Carnegie. They gave Dora twenty-four grandchildren, fifth great grandchildren and ten great, great grandchildren. A fine, loving clan!
