An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum", Wednesday, June 30, 2004: Russell Rhoades, 57, of Gatesville died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in a Temple hospital. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Rhoades was born Jan. 5, 1947 in Gatesville. He grew up in Gatesville and lived most of his life there. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked on offshore oil rigs for many years and most recently at Kelly Tires in Temple. He was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Wendy Rhoades of Gatesville; a son, Russell Rhoades Jr. of Catoosa, OK; five brothers, Terry Rhoades of Grapevine, Kenneth Rhoades of Gatesville, Billy Joe Rhoades of Courtsite, AZ, Clayton Rhoades of Detroit, MI, and Ernie Moore of Midland; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
