Benjamin H. Peters, son of Henry and Catherine Dires Peters, was born at Springfield, Illinois on August 23, 1866. He, with his parents, moved to Sherman County, Nebraska ( lived in a dugout near where Clear Creek joins Muddy Creek) at the age of four years. Later the family moved to Buffalo County. Benjamin was united in marriage July 25, 1891, to Amelia Kirschner. To this union there were born six children, two of whom preceded him in death , a son Frank in fancy, and a daughter at the age of 50, Mrs. Julia Hoffman. He was preceded in death by six brothers. Benjamin was baptized in the Lutheran Faith in his early childhood. He departed this life on October 12, 1956, while visiting in the home of his son, Ben Jr., of Ogallala, Nebraska. At death, he was 90 years, one month and 19 days, of age. There remain to mourn his passing and remember with joy his life among men, his good wife, Amelia, his three sons, Ben and Fred of Ogallala, and Leo of Pleasanton; his one daughter, Mrs. Theresa Schmalenbock of Omaha; one brother, Louis of Oakland, Californian; 35 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many other relatives, acquaintances and friends.
