Charles Ray Banks, 87, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 in Hemphill Care Center. Charles was born February 14, 1932 in Jasper, Alabama to Garfield Banks and Lessie Russell Banks. He served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army and later worked as a diesel mechanic for the railroad. Charles was a member of Six-Mile Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, of the Littleton-Fowler Masonic Lodge #305, and of the Hemphill Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #375. He is survived by his daughters, Ann Banks Oates and husband, Daryl, of Humble, Texas and Judy Banks Barnes of Houston, Texas; brothers, W. A. Banks and wife, Christine, of New Braunfels, Texas and Ernest Banks and wife, Jeannie, of San Dimas, California; grandchildren, Stacey Martin, Shelley Carter, Michelle McFadden, Austin McFadden, and Mandy Bumpus; seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Banks; and brothers, Terry Banks, Erlane Banks, Victor Banks, and James Banks. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Six Mile Baptist Church, 9575 State Hwy 87, Hemphill, Texas under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Eddye Sunday officiating. Burial will be held following services in Yellowpine Cemetery on Hwy. 87 in Hemphill, Texas. Serving as pallbearers are Chase Fruge, Ty Martin, Hayden Martin, Kyle Hackett, Austin McFadden, Keaton Carter, and Xavier Martinez. Online condolences can be made at starrfuneralhome.com.
