Bio

Louis F. Grmela, 87 of Abbott, passed away early Sunday morning, June 8, 1997 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. June 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mr. Grmela was born April 16, 1910 in West, the son of Frank and Johanna Grmela. He married Frances M. Rejcek on November 9, 1936 in West. She preceded him in death on June 27, 1985. He was a farmer and rancher all his life until he retired in 1975, however, he remained active on his farm and tended to his cattle. He was a member of the K.J.T. Society No. 31 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, both in West. He is preceded in death by a son, Albert Grmela, who died February 5, 1994. He is survived by one son, Ernest Grmela and his wife, Maggie, both of West; three daughters, Dorothy Hajek and her husband, Louise (Lou) Pokluda and her husband Bill, and Veronica (Ronnie) Hrabal and her husband Eddie Ray, all of West; a daughter-in-law, Carolle Grmela of Bakersfield, California; two sisters, Lillie Rejcek of Itasca and Martha Hejl of Hillsboro; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Charlie Hajek, Louis Hajek, Andy Grmela, Damon Pokluda, Devin Pokluda, Stephen Hrabal and James Grmela. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
