Bio
Ernest E. Sykora, age 57, of West, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2001 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Co-celebrants will be Rev. Walter Matus, Rev. Henry Petter, Rev. B.J. "Boli" Zientek, Rev. Melvin Dornak and Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Ernest was born on September 3, 1944 in Dallas, the son of Henry and Angeline (Macik) Sykora. He graduated from St. Mary's School in 1958 and attended West High School where he graduated in 1962. He also received his certificate as Master Electrician from Texas State Technical College. He married Dolores Slovak on October 21, 1967 in Ennis. He was owner of Sykora Electric Company in West for over 25 years. He was also an insurance representative for R.V.O.S. He was a member of R.V.O.S., K.J.T. Society #31, Knights of Columbus Council #2305, past-member of the Board of Directors for West Fraternal Auditorium, and worked with the Boy Scouts. Ernest enjoyed fishing, Czech music, barbecuing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was grad-paw to many of his nieces and nephews. He was a life-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, where he served as Eucharistic Minister, and member of the 50-50 Club, and had served on the parish board of directors. He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Sykora, who died in 1971, and a sister Veronica Sykora, who died in 1959. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
