Henry J. Svacina, age 71 of West, passed away Thursday evening, July 22, 1993 in West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 4 p.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 4:14 p.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek, as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites followed in St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mr. Svacina was born June 6, 1922 in Hill County and moved to West in 1952. He worked for Shaffer Farm Supply in Bellmead for a number of years as a tractor mechanic. Mr. Svacina was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army-Air Force. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, the K.J.T. Society No. 31 of West, the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West serving as a chaplain for a number of years and the American Legion Post No. 475 serving also as a chaplain. He was a musician having played with the West Melodians and Kohut Orchestra and at one time had his own band, The Polka Dots. He was musician-entertainer for the residents of West Rest Haven for a number of years. He married Martha Matus on December 30, 1944 in Liberal, Kansas. Mr. Svacina is survived by his wife, Martha of West; two daughters, Patricia Lednicky of West and Carolyn Kyzar of Austin; two sisters, Mary Karlik of New Waverly and Sophie Berger of McGregor; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Paul Owen, Timothy Lednicky, Malcolm Svacina, James Svacina, Patrick Svacina, Bernard Svacina, Raymond Svacina and Jody Svacina.
