Bio

Mrs. Mary Soukup Goebel, 83, of West, died Friday, May 7, in West Rest Haven. Mass of Christian burial was at 10 a.m. Monday, May 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, the Rev. George Doskocil officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mrs. Goebel was born in Czechoslovakia May 7, 1899. She moved to the United States when she was six and was married to Joe F. Soukup in 1916. He died in December 1941. She moved to Dallas in 1950 when she was married to John Fred Goebel. He died in January 1955. She had lived in West since 1968. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society and the KJZT Society No. 104 of Abbott. Survivors include six sons, Louis J. Soukup of Lancaster, George Soukup of West, Joe F. Soukup of Abbott, Johnny Soukup of New Braunfels, Alfons Soukup of Robinson and Steve Soukup of San Antonio; five daughters, Mrs. Steve (Katie) Kaska of Abbott, Mrs. Jerome (Hattie) Kaska and Mrs. Raymond (Lillian) Matus, both of West, Mrs. Raymond (Rosie) Knapek of Axtell, and Mrs. Steve (Mary) Neckar of Lorena, a brother, Toby Kracmer of West; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Irby of Dallas; 35 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Jerry Soukup, Tim Soukup, Mike Soukup, Ronnie Kaska, Jimmy Matus, Danny Neckar, Richard Soukup and George Soukup, Jr. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 92, No. 25, Ed. 1, Thursday, Mary 13, 1982, page 6
