Mr. George J. Soukup, 65, of Rt. 1, West, died Monday afternoon, January 7, 1985, at a Temple hospital. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. B.J. Zientek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Soukup was born January 8, 1919, near West. He had lived in the West area all of is life. He was married to Albina Picha on April 5, 1937, in West. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of VFW Post 4819. He was a retired farmer. He also worked as a heavy equipment maintenance man for Young Brothers in Waco during the 1960's. He was employed in Hillsboro by Adams Machine Shop for several years during the 1970's. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, George A. Soukup and Edward Soukup, both of Route 1, West; two daughters, Mrs. George (Ann) Berger of West and Mrs. Milton (Irene) Peterson of Malone; five brothers, Louis Soukup of Lancaster, Joe F. Soukup of Abbott, Johnnie Soukup of New Braunfels, Alfonse Soukup of Waco and Steve Soukup of San Antonio; five sisters, Mrs. Steve (Katie) Kaska of Abbott, Mrs. Jerome (Hattie) Kaska of West, Mrs. Raymond (Rosie) Knapek of Axtell, Mrs. Steve (Mary) Neckar, Jr. of Lorena and Mrs. Raymond R. (Lillian) Matus of West; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Pallbearers were Henry Urban, Jr., Alvin Soukup, Jimmy Matus, Ronnie Kaska, Albin Picha and George Kaska.
