Alfred J. (Freddie) Pavlas, 77, of West, died Saturday, March 8, at his residence. He was born July 19, 1925 in Abbott, son of Anton and Lillian Hodanek Pavlas. He attended schools in Abbott and West before entering the United States Army in 1943. He served during World War II before being discharged at the rank of staff sergeant in 1946. After returning, he married Bonnie Southward on April 21, 1948 in Hillsboro. He worked at several places, including West Food Mart, before retiring in 2002. He was a member of SPJST Lodge #54, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, American Legion #478 and RVOS. Survivors include his wife; one son, Freddie Pavlas and wife Donna, of Waco; four sisters, Edna Sharp of Waco and Maxine Bonge, Dorothy Zahirniak and Esther Vrana, all of West; triplet grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Military graveside services were conducted by West VFW Post #4819 at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at St. Mary's Cemetery in West with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating.
