Henry E. Matula, age 88 of West, passed away Monday, December 16, 2002 at his residence. Rosary will be recited 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:15 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Mr. Matula was born August 28, 1914 in Hill County and had lived in West since 1936. He was a retired farmer and worked as a trucker and delivery person for two companies in Waco. Mr. Matula also worked for West Chemical and Fertilizer and West Auction, Inc. He married Lillie Cervenka, November 23, 1936 in West. She preceded him in death on April 23, 1997. At an early age he was a member of the West Sokol Club and a gymnast. Mr. Matula was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2305, SPJST Lodge #54 and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He loved the outdoors working with the earth and was an avid gardener and animal lover. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The family will receive visitors at Kotch Funeral Home in West Thursday, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association or to the charity of your choice.
