Emil Matula Dies In West Emil Matula, 86, of West, died Thursday morning in West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Thursday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel, West. Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West with Rev. William Bennish officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Matula was born in Schulenberg and lived in the West area most of his life. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and K.J.T. Society No. 31. His wife, Ludmila, died June 18, 1969. Survivors include four sons, Henry Matula and Fred Matula, both of West, Robert Matula and Albert Matula, both of Abbott; a daughter, Mrs. Fred Smetak of Dallas; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ted Uptmore, Jr., John David Uptmore, Larry Matula, Charlie Matula, Roman Smetak, and Pete Gallia, Jr. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 86, No. 44, Edition 1, Thursday, November 4, 1976, page 5.
