Bio

Mary Eleanor Morgan Mashek of West passed away December 12, 1995, at West Rest Haven. She was born September 2, 1913, in the Brooken community of Hill County to William Clarence and Julia Chase Morgan. She moved to West at an early age and attended West Schools. Mary was proud to have been selected as the first "Miss West" in 1933. She met her future husband Jerry Mashek as they hoed and picked cotton on the adjoining Morgan and Mashek farms located near the present day Jerry Mashek Drive in West. They married on May 17, 1936, and raised five children. Mary jointly owned and assisted her husband in several businesses in West. She especially enjoyed campaigning for Jerry during the 18 years he served as Precinct 3 Commissioner of McLennan County. Known for her sense of humor, Mary loved to joke with friends and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her husband, her son, Jerry Mashek, Jr., and sister Marjorie Stewart. She is survived by her children Betty Ingram and Bob of Fort Worth, Larry Mashek of Dallas, Joe Mashek of West, Margie Davis and San of Italy; grandchildren: Susan Ingram Lacina, Shannon Ingram, Clint and Curtis Mashek, and Derek and Trevor Davis; brothers and sister: Harry Morgan of Hillsboro, Bernice and Carl Morgan and Kay Mascarella of Waco, Milton "Poone" Morgan of West; and a host of friends and relatives throughout the West area. Pallbearers ae Joe Edd Grimm, Bob Wolf, Jimmy Kolacek, Sam Soukup, Michael Polasek, Jim Park, Jimmy Polansky, and Buddy Cernosek. Honorary Pallbearers are Cecil Friend, Tim Kocian, Boiley Pareya, and nephews from the Mashek and Morgan families. Rosary services, led by Rose and Charlie Kubacak, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 1995 at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. December 15, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West with the Father Ed Karasek as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Kotch Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
