Leo (Lefty) Girard, Jr., age 74, of 3207 North 18th in Waco, died September 27, 1985 at St. Paul's Medical Center in Dallas. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. September 29, 1985 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Greg McLaughlin. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. September 30, 1985 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with Rev. Bernard C. Goertz as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mr. Girard was born November 26, 1910 in the West area of McLennan County to Leo and Mollie Girard. He married Helen Matus in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 7, 1949. He was a retired carpenter, a 1928 graduate of Waco High School, an avid outdoor sportsman, and pitcher for the Old West Sluggers baseball team. Mr. Girard was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waco. Survivors include his wife, Helen Girard of Waco; five sons, Robert L. Girard of Waco, John Girard of Eddy, Tommy Girard and Leo (Sonny) Girard, both of Bellmead, and Billy Girard of Waco; four daughters, Mary Ann Tusa of Hewitt, Mrs. Jack (Linda) Henry of China Spring, Mrs. Don (Lillian) Crawford of Hewitt, and Mrs. Bobby (Terry) Avants of Bellmead; thirteen grandchildren; and one nephew. Pallbearers were Royce Zatopek, Willie Matus, Bill Keton, Steve Veselka, Chris Girard and Joe Girard.
