Gerlich of Abbott, was killed in a plane crash five miles southeast of Cresson, Texas on Friday, Nov. 1. Major Smith, pilot of the B-25, was also killed in the crash which occurred while on a cross-country flight after a take-off from the Fort Worth Army Air Field where the two occupants of the plane were stationed. Funeral services for Sgt. Gerlich were held here at the Catholic church at 10 a.m. Monday, Rev. Chas. Smid and Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating. Interment was at the Catholic cemetery here. A military honor guard accompanied the body from the Ft. Worth Army Air Field, served as pall bearers and participated in the services at the cemetery. Sgt.
