Nona Jean Gerik, age 54 of West, passed away July 1, 1999, at her residence. A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. July 3, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Steven Nesrsta and Rev. Ed Karasek as co-celebrants. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Gerik was born July 19, 1944, in Hillsboro and had lived in the Abbott-West area all of her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, and Catholic Daughters of America Court #829. She graduated from Abbott High School in 1961 and from Waco Beauty School. Mrs. Gerik owned and operated Nona's Beauty Shop. She married Marvin Gerik on July 20, 1961, in Abbott. Mrs. Gerik is survived by her husband, Marvin Gerik of West; her mother, Annie Kubacak of West; three sons, Marvin Gerik, Jr. of West, Christopher Gerik and wife Marci of Waco and David Gerik and wife Jennifer of West; three daughters, Amanda Bettge and husband Bill, Jeanne Anderson and husband Brian and Cathy Gerik, all of West; one brother, Larry Joe Kubacak of West and several grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Jerry Gerik, Jr., Morris Solar, Bill Kolar, Mike Hutyra, Pat Srubar, and Robert Stanislav. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Mynarcik, Jason Neill, Mark Hardwick, Robert Lenart, and Catholic Daughters of America Court #829. Kotch Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
