Bio

Death: 1829 in Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois Married: Margaret Brown. Robert is believed to be the son of a Robert Harper, Sr. (FAG #: 21175109). He is also believed to have been born in Virginia in an area that became Jefferson County, West Virginia, at around the time of the Civil War. The majority of the inhabitants of West Virginia didn't believe in slavery, so they split apart from Virginia and joined the Union army during the Civil war. Thus, West Virginia was created out of the western part of Virginia. Berkeley County, Virginia was formed out of Frederick County, Virginia, in 1792. Jefferson County, Virginia, was formed out of Berkeley County, Virgina, in 1801. Son: Adam Brown Harper born 1776 in South Carolina Son: Thomas Harper born 1783 born in South Carolina Son: William Harper born 1786 ==== Note: Although this Robert Harper's age might indicate he would have been of an age to have fought in the Rev. War, I checked DAR records, and there was no indication that anyone has filed to become a member of DAR on this Robert Harper. ************************************************************ The man you have attached as his father (Robert Harper 1718-1782) cannot be his father. On the memorial of this 1718-1782 Robert there is a photo of a plaque with a history of the Harper's Ferry house and it states he had no children. In addition, he wrote his will (available on Ancestry) a month before he died, in it he mentions no children, or descendants of any children, leaving his estate, including the ferry house, ferry, land and a slave to be sold, to a niece (who got the house and ferry but had not yet married at the time of his will) and five nephews, he also mentions he wanted a stone erected for his wife, who died before him...so you may have the correct mother but as she died later, she could not have been the wife of Robert 1718-1782. One of the nephews mentioned in the will was a Robert Harper, I suspect he is the correct father and husband, but, sorry, do not know where he is buried.
