Beacon News, The (Aurora, IL) - Thursday, March 6, 2008 Harvey R. Bergeron, 84, of Aurora, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008 at his home. He was born January 23, 1924 in Argyle, MN. Harvey served as a combat U.S. Marine in WWII. He was wounded in two separate conflicts in the South Pacific; Tarawa Atoll in November 1943, where he received the Purple Heart, and on the island of Saipan in June 1944, where he received the Gold Star. After his combat tour, Harvey served as a presidential guard for Franklin D. Roosevelt. Harvey married Joan N. Airhart on October 1, 1946. He owned and operated Harvey's Automatic Transmission in Aurora for over 30 years, and worked at Kelley's for over 12 years. While Harvey's hobbies included fishing, boating, beach camping, pool and golf, he was happiest spending time with his family. Survivors include his five children: Pamela (Robert) Torres of Wahiawa, Hawaii, James (Sue) Bergeron of Yorkville, Marie (Michael) Green of Wilmington, Charles (Lynette) Bergeron of Plattville, IL. and Kathleen (Frank) McCannon of Aurora; twelve grandchildren: Angeleen (Rick) Gatto, Melissa Torres, Roxane (Michael) Newton, Timothy (Elizabeth) Bergeron, Philip Bergeron, Michele Bergeron (John Duncan), Lisa (Steven) Fox, Janice Bergeron, Kristen Bergeron (Ian Adams), Michael Bergeron, Steven Bergeron and Sarah Bergeron; eleven great grandchildren: Jacob Newton, Daniel, Noah and Gabrielle Bergeron, Miranda and Michael Gatto, Jacob, Leah and Lukas Fox, and Cora and Taylor Adams; his sister, Alice Farstad of North Dakota; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Mira. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan, who passed away on September 30, 2000; his parents, Earl and Pearl (Danduran) Bergeron; and by his brother, Ralph. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Church. Fr. Timothy Piasecki will officiate. Interment services will be private. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 6 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:30 PM, at The Daleiden Mortuary, 220 N.
