Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Monday, July 7, 1919 Mrs. August Wendt of this city passed away yesterday morning at 7 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roggasch, at Duff, Rock county, Neb., where she had gone about two weeks ago on a visit. Shortly after her arrival, Mrs. Wendt contracted a severe cold, which developed into pneumonia, causing her demise. Mrs. Wendt, nee Miss Albertena Schmidt, was born in Germany on April 19, 1851, and was 68 years, 2 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. She came to America in the year of 1871, and on June 15, 1873, was united in marriage to August Wendt. To this union there were born twelve children, eight of whom survive the mother, together with the bereaved husband. The children are: Mrs. Julia Busig of Hall county, Mrs. Theresa Roggasch of Rock county, Nebr.; Mrs. Vena Sanders of Council Bluffs, Ia.; Mr. August Wendt of Culbertson, Neb.; Mrs. Anna Fales of Rock county, Neb.; Mr. Alfred Wendt of Hall county, Nebr.; Ms. Martha Whitescarver of this city, and Miss Minnie Wendt of this city. In 1873 Mr. and Mrs. Wendt located on a farm home six miles north of the city, where they continued to reside until about a year and a half ago when they moved to this city to reside. The remains were brought to this city at noon today and funeral services will be held from the Wendt residence, 411 East Third street, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will take place in the Wiegert cemetery north of the city.
