Other children from the marriage of August and Albertin (Schmidt) Wendt were: Hulda Alma Antonia Wendt, born March 31, 1881 and August Carl Albert Wendt, born July 30, 1885 in Hall County, Nebraska Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Saturday, 7 February 1920 August Carl Frederick Wendt, well known retired farmer, passed away at St. Francis hospital in this city at 11:45 a.m. Friday, death resulting from pneumonia. He had been ill only since Monday. Mr. Wendt was born in Germany on July 23, 1843, and had reached the age of 76 years, six months, and thirteen days. He came to America in 1870 and located in Illinois, where he spent two years. He then came to Nebraska and took a homestead in Lake township where he engaged in active farming for about 46 years. About two years ago he retired from farm work and moved to Grand Island, purchasing a residence at 411 East Third street, where the family has since resided. Mr. Wendt, despite his advanced years, enjoyed unusual health and on Monday last was attending to business matters in the city. He contracted a severe cold and pneumonia developed quickly and he was removed to the hospital for treatment on Wednesday. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons and six daughters as follows: Mrs. Julia Busig, Hall county; Mrs. Tracey Roggasch, Rock county; Mrs. Vena Sanders, of Council Bluff, Ia.; Mrs. Anna Fales, of Rock county; Mrs. Martha Whitesearver and Miss Minnie Wendt of this city; Mr. August Wendt, of Culbertson, Neb.; and Mr. Alfred Wendt, of Hall county. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death only seven months ago. Funeral services will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Seventh Day Adventists church on East Eighth street, Elder B. M. Garten officiating. Burial will take place in the Wiegert Cemetery.
