Fern Haggard Fern Haggard, 82, of Lubbock passed away on Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. She was born on Dec. 30, 1922 in Grayson County, Texas. Fern married J.C. Haggard i n 1939 in Sherman, Texas. He preceded her in death in January of 1968. They moved to Lubbock in 1942 and farmed in New Deal for over 25 years. Fern was a longtime employee at Texas Tech University before retiring in 1988. She was a Baptist. The love of her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Herchel and Laura Edwards; two sons, Kenneth and Ronnie Haggard; two brothers, Hubert and Herman Edwards; and a sister, Dorothy Hicks. Survivors include three sons, Thurmon Haggard and wife Calvette and Dennis Haggard all of Lubbock and Tom and wife Sharon of Modesto, CA; a sister, Martha Davis and husband C.A. of Lubbock; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and longtime friends, Margaret Allen and Olena Bell, both of Lubbock. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 11 at Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Horn officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the care of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
