Funeral services were held in Fairbury Wednesday afternoon for Clarence Koch, former Nelson resident who died Sunday in Denver. Mrs. Koch, the former Gertrude Roby, survives, as do a son and two daughters. The Kochs left Nelson in about 1928 and have lived in Denver for some time. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, January 3, 1957 --------------------------------------------- Clarence Koch, formerly of Nelson, passed away at Denver, Colo., Dec. 28, 1956 at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 13 days. John Clarence Koch, son of John M. and Alice Jane Burns Koch, was born Aug. 15, 1886, at Fairbury. He was baptized in infancy in the Methodist church and received his education in the Fairbury schools. Later he was employed as a telegraph operator in Kansas and also spent a number of year in farming. On June 3, 1908 he married Clara Pickens and to them three children were born. Mrs. Koch died June 3, 1914. In 1917 he married Mrs. Hattie Mantefuel, who passed away in 1924. On July 1929 he married Mrs. Gertrude Roby and they were making their home in Denver at the time of his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 77 at Nelson, also a past member of Rotary club and Chamber of Commerce while living at St. Joseph, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ralph A. Koch, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Velma Swails. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude, Denver; three children, Ruth, Mrs. Dale Kyker, Fairbury, Wesley Koch, St. Joseph, Mo., and Harriet, Mrs. Anton Peluso, Chicago; sister, Mrs. D.B. Kantor, Fairbury; four step-children, Mrs. Edith Bixby, Geneva, Mrs. Donald McCashland, Eugene, Ore., John Roby, Lincoln, and James Roby, who has been stationed on the Isle of Crete and is expected to arrive home the last of this week, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at Traum's chapel in Fairbury with Rev. Clair Geibert officiating. A.J. Denney was in charge of the Masonic rites.
