Bio

Weimar Mercury, March 2, 1934, page 1: The Death Angel Sunday night summoned the spirit of Mr. John Heger, Sr., an aged and honored citizen of this section for many years, to its last resting place. His death occurred at the home of his son, Mr. Fred Heger, in this city, where he had been very ill for a number of weeks. His condition was known to be serious for quite awhile, and due to advanced age not much hope was entertained for his recovery, although from time to time his condition seemed to improve. The end came quickly and the poor, tired spirit joined its Creator willingly and trustingly. The funeral took place Tuesday morning from the residence of Mr. Fred Heger, with services at St. Michael’s Church, Revs. Szymanski and Hildebrand officiating and interment in St. Michael's Cemetery. There was a large attendance of mourning relatives and friends to witness the last sad rites. Pall bearers for Mr. Heger's funeral were six grandsons, as follows: Robert Heger, Johnnie Freis, Beanie Rerich, Frank Miksch, Robert Miksch and Fred Miksch. Mr. John Heger, Sr., was born Dec. 1, 1850, in Austria. He came to this country when quite young and had resided in the United States fifty-seven years at time of. death. Fifty-eight years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Bartosh in the old country, his wife dying in this community in 1925. To this union were born ten children, all of whom survive, as follows: Mr. Frank Heger, Sr., Mrs. Julia Miksch, Mrs. Sophie Freis, Mr. John Heger, Jr., Mrs. Frances Miksch, Mrs. Millie Rerich, Mr. Fred Heger, Mrs. Minnie Vacek, all of this community; Mrs. Mary Munsch, Woodsboro; Mrs. Annie Ullmann, Floresville; also forty-five grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Heger first located in the Dubina community, but afterward moved to a point between Weimar and Holman, and here the remainder of his life was spent. He was a successful farmer, a splendid, good man and citizen, devoted to his family arid church, and at all times during his long residence in this section always possessed the friendship and esteem of all our people. In his passing all realize they have lost a mighty good citizen. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his bereaved ones. Colorado County Citizen, March 1, 1934: Funeral services for John Heger Sr., 86, pioneer resident of this area, whose death occurred here Sunday, were held Tuesday morning at St. Michael's Church. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery. Surviving are three sons, John, Frank and Fred, all of this city, and six daughters, Mrs. Frank Miksch, Mrs. Gus Miksch, Mrs. Frank Vacek, Mrs. Emil Rebrich, all of Weimar, and Mrs. F F. Muensch of Woodsboro, and Mrs. Joe Ulmann of Floresville.
