George was the son of Ephraim and Sarah Thompson. He married Malinda Elizabeth Alexander Thompson November 8, 1852 in Lawrence County, Alabama. They had the following children: William R., James D., John S., Franklin P., George W.II, Sarah Elisabeth, Riley E. and Ann Meirine "Annie" Thompson.
