Leland A. Eaton, 94, of Shelley, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Idaho Falls. He was born April 9, 1915, in Vernal, Utah, to Zera and Alice Starkey Eaton. He was the fourth child born to a family of 13. That same year, the family moved to Shelley, where he resided the rest of his life. On June 2, 1937, he married his sweetheart, Zelma Mitchell, and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He and Zelma farmed for more than 50 years. He enjoyed every minute on the farm and was truly in his God-given element. He always said he would never change any part of his life. He enjoyed the journey to the fullest extent. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling and spending time outdoors. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family. He was a great storyteller and everyone loved listening to his stories. He was an amazing example to not only his family but everyone he met. He was a man of integrity, service and generosity and was always concerned about others. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a high priest. He is survived by his children, Jimmy (Lori) Eaton and Cindy (Dean) Bunnell; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joe (Sharlene) Eaton and Mabel Cannon, both of Shelley, and Jack (Rayceal) Eaton of Boise. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Zelma; and nine brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Aug. 17, at the Shelley LDS Stake Center, 325 E. Locust in Shelley, with Bishop Robert Butler conducting. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 this evening at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. in Shelley, and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. Monday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
