Obituary from POST REGISTER (IDAHO FALLS, ID) - 8 JUNE 2005: SHELLEY -- Bertha E. Stears, 94, of Shelley, died June 5, 2005, at Aspen Grove Assisted Living in Shelley. She was born September 16, 1910, in Vernal, Utah, to Zera and Alice Starkie Eaton. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Shelley, where they farmed. On November 18, 1925, she married Elven L. Stears in Jameston, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 18, 1951. In 1948, they moved near Shelley, where they farmed and lived for 47 years. She worked for Keith Collin's Green House for 17 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She enjoyed quilting, dancing, cooking and gardening. Survivors include her children, Donna Harker of Idaho Falls, Shane (Kathy) Stears of Shelley and Kent (Sherrie) Stears of Juneau, Alaska; brothers, Leland Eaton, Bill (Donna) Eaton and Joe (Sharlene) Eaton, all of Shelley, and Jack (Raceal) Eaton of Boise; sisters, Evelyn Rowbury of Rexburg and Mabel Cannon of Shelley; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Nona Becker; five brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Jameston Ward, 1101 E. 1250 North, with Bishop Kristan Sparks officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak St. in Shelley and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday before services at the church. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery.
