Mary "Evelyn" Eaton Rowbury, 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away at the Good Samaritan on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. She was born January 11, 1919, the sixth of 13 children of Zera Eaton and Alice Bertha StarkieEaton in Shelley. She was affectionately known as "Sis" to her family. While growing up, she helped her family and held various jobs in the Shelley area. She picked potatoes to pay for her clothes and worked in the Library on Main Street. In 1938, she graduated from Shelley High School. In the spring of 1938, she was working with her family at Sheep Creek near Del, Montana, sheering sheep. Deloy "Dee" Rowbury proposed to her and they returned to Shelley to get married on June 30, 1938. Together, Dee and Evelyn raised four children. They worked in the potato and timber industries throughout the Snake River Valley. The family spent many summers in the Island Park area. She was a member of the LDS Church. She enjoyed dancing, sewing and reading. Dancing was her true love. She spent as much time as she could in the Island Park area and loved the pine trees. One of her greatest joys was her extended family, from her children to her great grandchildren. She especially loved holding the new additions to the family. Survivors include her sons, and daughter,14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and siblings,all of Shelley, Idaho, and brother of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee; son, Dee; her parents; six brothers; and two sisters.
