Bio
Mrs. Lena J. Mertens, 79, lifelong resident of Lawrence, died Sunday, May 4, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings. Scripture services were held at the Sacred Heart Church Tuesday evening. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 1975, at the Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence. The Rev. John Kelly officiated and burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mrs. Mertens is survived by her husband, Chris; two sons, Eugene, Hastings and Ray, Sutton; two daughters, Mrs. Marian Souchek, Deweese and Mrs. Bernadine Karmazin, Nelson; one sister, Anna Menke, Blue Hill; one brother, Theodore Menke, Oregon and 19 grandchildren. The Merten-Butler Funeral Home of Blue Hill was in charge. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 8, 1975; pg. 10
