Wash and his twin brother Dury were born on the family wheat farm in Collin County, Texas about two miles outside of Celina. Although he never married most believe Wash lived a full life. In his younger days he rode as a cowboy for the 6666 Ranch. Back in those days "Cowboying" was a rough and tumble life. It is remembered by family members that Wash was a small-framed man probably not standing much over 5 feet. He wore a boy's size cowboys boots. As a young man he had been hit in the face with a shot gun blast that took out most of his teeth but that never stopped him from enjoying a good stead, using the few remaining teeth to tear the meat apart. In his later years Wash would live with different relatives.
