Bio

From The Phonograph, December 27, 1922, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: A Friendly Tribute Paid To Frank Gruber - Christmas day reverted into mourning for Frank Gruber's family, many friends and relatives when it was learned Saturday morning at 6:30 that he yielded to the unmerciful death, caused by paralysis preceded by many years' ailment. Mr. Gruber was born in Bohemia on the 4th day of April, 1865, being 57 years, 8 months and 19 days of age at the date of his demise. In the year 1871, with his parents he emigrated to America, located then in the city of Oswego, New York, residing there about 7 years, thence in the year 1878 with his parents and brothers located in St. Paul, where he continually resided to his end. In early days he took part in many enterprises to build up the city of St. Paul, inconnection with his brothers he was manufacturing brick for several years, thus you may say he helped to lay a real foundation of this city. Being always progressive he entered into butcher, restaurant and bakery business at intervals. In the year 1897 he was married to Miss Francis Otoupalik, which occasion you may contribute to his triumph, being successful in getting an experienced helpmate he took charge of the Commercial hotel. During his tenancy this hotel reached its fame for hospitality and best service. Lately he entered into the grocery business which he successfully conducted to this time. His humorous disposition won him many warm friends who all regret the early end of his life and join in sympathy with the bereaved family. To this happy union six healthy children were born, 4 sons and 2 daughters, who, besides his only brother, Will Gruber of Ord will mourn his demise. Frank Gruber was educated and reared in the Catholic religion and took faithful part during all of his life in church work. His remains were laid to rest at the Catholic cemetery on the 26th day of December, 1922. Father Gleason officiating. May he rest in eternal peace. A Friend
