A Lawrence man, Edward M. Hlavac, 73, died Friday, Aug. 23, in Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings. He was the owner of Hlavac Hardware in Lawrence from 1952 to 1980. The funeral was last Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Valerian Bartek officiating. A rosary was Monday evening at the church with the Rev. Thomas Au officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites at graveside by Kent Kaly Post, No. 45. He was born Feb. 24,1918, at Lawrence. Hlavac served in the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1952. Jan. 20, 1949, he married Marietta Derrez in Sacramento, Calif. He was a member of the Catholic Workmen, American Legion Post, No. 45, Lawrence, and the Little Blue VFW Post, No. 10045, Deweese. Survivors are his wife; one brother, Jack, Lawrence; and three sisters, Frances Doerfler of Salem, Ore., Mary Muruaga of Fayetteville, Ark., and Lucille Wonka, Albuquerque, N. M. Superior Express September 5, 1991.
