Biorgraphy of Henry Brown Vaughn, by Herby & Amy Bloodworth. Born 11 September 1830 in Lowndes County. Died 11 April 1864 at home in Woodlawn from gangrene. Single tombstone, Inscription "Dearest Husband thou hast left us I thy loss most deeply feel, Yet tis God has bereft us, He can all my sorrow heal. Yet again I hope to meet thee, When my time on earth has fled Then in Heaven, with joy to greet thee Where no farewell tear is shed." Son of John and Elizabeth Williamson Vaughn, see above section for information about John & Elizabeth and their children. Husband of Martha Jane Kidd*, daughter of William* and Zilpha Kidd* married October 22, 1850 in Lowndes County. Father of an infant son*, Augusta Druscilla*, Harriet Eliza*, Zelpha Francella*, Mary E.*, Myrtis Brown* & Henry Brown* Henry served as a private in the Civil war in the 22nd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, Company C. Family memories from Mrs. Evelyn Vaughn Gillis* tell us that he was injured and brought home by train and then by wagon to his home. He died three days later of gangrene from his injuries. This story is supported by an article written for The Macon Beacon and run in The Packet on April 24, 2008 by Beth Freshour. The article stated that the Mobile and Ohio railroad ran during the war, stopping in Corinth, Tupelo, Okolona, West Point, Artesia, Columbus, Brooksville, Macon, Shuqualak, Lauderdale and Meridian. In 1850, the census was taken September 2 in Lowndes County. The Vaughn family was household and family 103. In the home were Henry, age 18, his father, John , age 62, and his mother Elizabeth, age 61. John was a farmer with real estate valued at $250. John was born in South Carolina, Elizabeth in Virginia and Henry in Miss. The 1860 census was taken June 23 for Caledonia. Household 219 and family 227 was the Henry B. Vaughn family. In the home were Henry (age 29), Martha (23), Augustine (8), Harriet (5), Francella (3), and Mary (8 months). Henry was a farmer with $7200 in real estate and $35,000 in personal property. Martha was born in Tenn. and the others were born in Miss. The 1860 Agricultural Census shows that Henry had 300 acres of improved land, 420 acres of unimproved land, $300 worth of machinery, $1000 worth of livestock and a cash value of $7200 for his farm.
