Rites Friday For Mrs. Schroeder, Tours Pioneer Mrs. Theo. (Lizzie) T. Schroeder, 89, of Tours, died at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday in a Waco nursing home. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Kotch Funeral Home in West by Rev. Edward J. Geiser. Solemn requiem mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. H.T. Schroeder, son, as celebrant. Rev. Louis M. Moeller, great-nephew will be deacon, Rev. John P. Geiser, subdeacon, and Rev. Pat Johnson, master of ceremonies. The eulogy will be delivered by the Rev. Edward J. Geiser. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery at Tours. Mrs. Schroeder was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on May 26, 1876, the youngest and last surviving child of Theodore Roessler and Mary Ann Schneider. Because of the year of her birth, she was known in her family as "Centennial Liz." The family came to Texas in the fall of 1877, settling in the old Live Oak community of Colorado County, residing temporarily in a log cabin. In the fall of 1883 the family was in a wagon train of 12 wagons which moved up to the future community of Westphalia. She came to Tours as a bride and resided there until about two years ago when a fall forced her to enter the nursing home where she died. Mrs. Schroeder was a member of St. Martin's Church in Tours, and took an active part in her church's affairs as long as her health permitted. She held various offices in the St. Elizabeth Altar Society, donating generously of her time and means toward her church. Mrs. Schroeder was an accomplished horsewoman. She loved to relate how, as a child in Colorado County, she carried the makings of her Dad's muzzle-loader on squirrel hunts and shooing the squirrels over to his side of the limb, how herds of buffaloes would come right up to the home in Westphalia, how droves and droves of cattle would pass by going west from East Texas, how the men folks put the family's brand on the right hip of cattle, and how her dad would plow a fireguard around the home, barns and corral each fall. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ann (Josie) Uptmore of Tours and Sister M. Henrietta, C.D.P. (Emma Marie) of Alexandria, La.; four sons, Robert J. Schroeder, George W. Schroeder, both of Tours, Rev. Henry T. Schroeder of The Regis of Waco, and John A. Schroeder, Sr., of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John A. Schroeder, Jr. of Dallas, Gregory R. Uptmore, Benjamin F. Uptmore, Kenneth M. Uptmore, Henry F. Roessler, John A. Roessler, all of Tours.
