Bio

Ronald Augustus Fernley, 80, died on January 10, 1997 at Christus St. Joseph's Villa. Born June 15, 1916 in Beaver, Utah to Augustus and Bertha Beck Fernley. Married on December 1, 1952 to Norma Lenor Mortensen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Graduated from East High School in 1934 and later from LDS Business College. Ron was a fine musician who loved to dance and play the piano. He belonged to the BYU and Bonneville dance clubs. He accompanied his wife for numerous singing engagements, and played the organ for the Winder First and Sixth Wards for many years. He worked at the Utah State Road Commission (now UDOT) for 44 years, where he served as a prequalification officer and then as secretary to the transportation commissioners. He will be remembered as a true gentleman, kind and loving with a keen sense of humor, and as a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Norma, two daughters, Sylvia (Don) Hartley and Allison Fernley (Judy Rose), two grandchildren, Shannon Tess and Samuel John Hartley, by a step-granddaughter, Lisa Ward (Boise), by two brothers, Wendel (Phoenix), Edward, and by a sister, Mary Evelyn Vagneur (Colorado Springs). Preceded in death by a sister, Zola Williams. Funeral Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 15, 1997 in the Winder Sixth Ward Chapel, 4366 South 1500 East. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), and at the Ward Chapel on Wednesday from 10:45- 11:45 a.m. prior to services.
