Bio

Son of Louie & Anna (Littelman) Loseke. He grew up on a farm near Leigh where he attended country school and Zion Lutheran Grade School. As a young boy, Louie worked on the farm with his father and siblings, enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching birds of all kinds. This is where Louie developed his early interest in flying. Louie married Mary Prokop on February 14, 1940 in Booneville, Missouri and to this union three children were born: Carolyn, Jean and Mike. Louie and Mary lived in Booneville, Missouri and on a farm near Leigh before they settled on their current farm in 1956. Louie farmed for a while but spent most of his life as a welder, working for Knab Pipeline, Columbus Irrigation and Pump, and Behlen's for 24 years before retiring in the 1970's. Louie enjoyed swimming, fishing, airboating and playing cards but his passion remained flying. He received his pilot's license in 1960 and enjoyed many years of flying the nine different planes that he had. Louie looked forward to annual gatherings with his large family of siblings. After retirement, Louie made bird houses and park benches made from old barn siding that he shared with everyone. He cherished the friendship of his dog, Jackson and took time to feed the many stray cats on the farm. Louie was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and former member of Experimental Aircraft Association. He was preceded in death by his parents Louie and Anna, wife Mary and siblings Hugo, Lillian, Elsie, Hulda, Emma, Olga, and Louise. Louie is survived by son and daughter-in-law Mike and Kim of Columbus, Nebraska; daughters and son-in-law Carolyn and Al Wersching of Coal City, Illinois and Jean Davis of Omaha, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; sister Irene Hajek of Columbus, Nebraska;
