Mr. Walter was a director of the Jurupa Community Services District during the 1970s and early 1980s. He also served on the old Glen Avon school board. "He was a first class citizen and one of the nicest persons you'd ever meet in your lifetime." said Walter N. Smith, who served on the community services district board with Mr. Walter. "He was kind of quiet. He never got into an argument, but when he had something to say, he made sure he did. He was not one to hold back. He was not a rubber stamp. He weighed all the facts before he made a decision." Mr Walter was a past master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge in Riverside and presiding officer of the three York Rite bodies of the Masonic order. He was also a past patron of Ungava Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in Riverside. A native of Limestone, N.Y., Mr. Walter lived in Glen Avon 47 years. He was an oil field technician in Pennsylvania from 1933 to 1941. He was a sergeant and bomb salvage technician in the Army during World War II. He was a salesman at Kustner's Pharmacy in Riverside from 1945-1950 and worked in production planning with Kaiser Steel Corp. In Fontana from 1960 to 1978, when he retired. Mr. Walter is survived by his wife, Ethel, of Glen Avon, a son of CA, sisters of PA and NY and four (3)grandchildren. Friends may visit from 5-9 p.m. today at Acheson and Graham mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave., Riverside. Graveside services under the auspices of Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 259 will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Crestlawn Cemetery, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside.
