Bio

Nettie was born to Laura Olive Cottle out of wedlock and was listed as the child of her grandfather, Zebulon Pike Cottle, on the 1880 census which has been the cause of some confusion among researchers. Her father was a Sanders, but remains unidentified. Her mother married William Laney Long when she was four and he raised her as his own. She was married to the brother of her aunt by marriage, James Claudius Roe Sr, 3 Jan 1894. One son was born to this union, Claude Roe Jr. Claude Sr was incarcerated in Huntsville Prison in January 1896 for killing a man. Claude was killed while in prison leaving Nettie a widow with a two-year old son. A few years later, she was married to Marion Alvin Williams - 1 Dec 1903. Her exact date of death is unknown, but her sister Josie said it was December the year after she & Marion married indicating Dec 1904. ~ Zebulon Long (great-grandnephew)
