Victim of Negroes Attack Succumbs A. L. Shockey, Assaulted June 22, Dies from Injuries Date: October 20, 1911 Paper: Fort Worth Star-Telegram Beaten and robbed by negroes on the night of June 22, A. L. Shockey, a contractor, 1637 Willie Street, after a three month struggle for life, succumbed to his injuries Thursday night. Fred Mobley, Paul Fowler and John Hopkins, arrested on charges of robbery and assault to murder soon after the robbery, and released of bonds of $1,000, were rearrested and placed in jail on murder charges Friday. Shockey was on his way home and had reached Center Street, near the old Haines Park ball ground, when two negroes accosted hi. While he stood for a moment, talking to the two negroes, a third approached and dealt him a terrific blow with some blunt instrument. Shockey was robbed of $26 and a gold watch, which was later recovered. He lay where he fell until the following morning when he was picked up in an unconscious condition. Shockey is survived by his wife and eight children and two brothers, L M Shockey, Roanoke and Joe Shockey who lives in Illinois, and two sisters, Mrs W C Criswell. Sapulpa. Ollahoma and Mrs W W Stephenson of Santa Anna, Texas. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from the residence, with interment in Oakwood.
