Paul Lankford Stafford, 91, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, at Bible Way Church, 2800 Gurley Ave., with the Rev. David Arnett and the Rev. Brian Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 5, at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco. Paul was born in Otto, Texas, to the late L. O. and Arelsie (Widner) Stafford. He graduated from Watt High School, and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Paul was married to Doris Elaine Hawkins for 55 years until her death in 1993. He married Mary Elizabeth Prowell on Dec. 9, 1995. Paul owned and operated the Paul Stafford Real Estate and Insurance Agency for 35 years. He sponsored Little League baseball teams for many years. He also worked faithfully with the Gideons for a long time. He was a former deacon at Memorial Baptist Church, a former chairman of deacons, and took great pride in this church. At the time of his passing, Paul was a member of Bible Way Church. He was a well known businessman in the community, and was a Christian gentleman in every way. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris; brothers, Louis, Odis, Royce, Howard and Bob; and sisters, Agnes, Lois and Johnnie. Paul is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Bonnie Stafford McMinn and husband, Bobby, of Hewitt and Mitzi McGaugh and husband, Doug, of Waco; step-daughters, Susan Abbott and husband, Paul, Sandy Juntunen and husband, Duane, Twila Bartlett and husband, Bill and Sharon Curry and husband, Ronnie; step-sons, Roger Prowell, and wife, Tina, Andrew Thomas Prowell Jr. and wife, Deborah, and Joe Prowell; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly; and sister, Mary Ellen Akin.
