Son of Alfred William Harper and Mary Melissa Walker Husband of Emma Sarah Hooley, married on 12 June 1907 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah Alfred Benjamin Harper was born Jan 27, 1884, at Pleasant Grove, Utah, Utah, the son of Alfred William and Mary Melissa Walker Harper. He grew to manhood working with his father on his farm and attending school in Pleasant Grove, Utah. At about the age of eighteen, he went to work at a commissary at Garfield, Utah, where he worked as a cook for two years. He returned to Pleasant Grove, Utah, due to the illness and subsequent death of his father. June 12, 1907, he married Emma Sarah Hooley in the Salt Lake temple. During their first year of marriage, they lived in one room of the Alfred William Harper residence where they helped take care of the remaining family. In addition to running his father's farm, he started building a home of their own in Orem, Utah, in the hours they could spare each day. Shortly after moving to their newly built home, their first of nine children was born, on Feb 4, 1909. They had 5 daughters and 4 sons born to them between the years of 1909 and 1926. Although he spent most of his life at hard work all the time on his farm, purchasing and cultivating new land from time to time and building his home to accommodate the increasing family, he still found time to give some of his time to several civic projects. He served for many years on the Old Folks Committee for the Windsor Ward and helped with the construction of the new ward chapel by hauling fill dirt from his farm. he also held the office of watermaster for many years, for the North Union Canal Co. If a neighbor or relative or friend was in need of assistance or help in an emergency, he always had time to lend a hand and give whatever was needed. Of his many good traits he is most remembered by everyone who had any dealings with him for his integrity, and honesty. At the time of his death on Sept. 1, 1941, in Orem, Utah, he held the office of High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was buried in Pleasant Grove, Utah. By Howard A.
