Services are planned for Frank Louis Pekar, 84, of Granger on Wednesday, May 6th 2009 at 10:00 AM at SSC&M Catholic Church in Granger. He will be buried immediately following the funeral at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 5th at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Mr. Pekar died Sunday, May 03, 2009 at the Granger Villa nursing home after a short illness. He was born in Granger, August 8th, 1924 to Joe A. Pekar and Hermina Janak. Frank graduated from Granger High School in 1943. He joined the Navy and served as a Storekeeper for three years in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He married Evelyn Sladecek of Granger in 1950 and they moved to Houston. Frank served in various positions of increasing responsibility with the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years. He retired as a Postal Service Examiner and moved back to Granger. Frank is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and two children: daughter Cecilia Hand and son Gregory & his wife Nancy, and seven grandchildren; John Hand and wife Jennifer, Sarah, Michael, Joshua and Rebekah Hand, Jennifer and Rachel Pekar, also by sisters Effie Skrhak and husband Joe, Hermina Gumm, and brother Bernard and wife Marilyn. He was preceded in death by brothers Joe and Andrew, sisters Hattie Blomdahl, Henrietta Pekar, Mary Ann Collins, and son-in-law John M. Hand Jr. Mr. Pekar was active in many local organizations. As a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4457, Frank was a mainstay Tuesday Night Bingo worker for many years. He was also a member of KJT #28, and SPJST Lodge #20. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to S.S.Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church ROAR Fund in memory of Frank Pekar.
