Bio

Services for Nancy Sue Smithee, 89, of Idalou will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at First United Methodist Church in Crosbyton with Rev. Paul Jantzen and Rev. Elbert Smithee officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton. Mrs. Smithee passed away Saturday afternoon at her Idalou home with her family by her side. She was born July 14, 1915, in Hagensport, Texas, to Gus and Beatrice (Carrell) Wims. On Nov. 9, 1934, she married William Jennings Smithee in Idalou. She and Jennings raised their five children in Crosbyton from 1946 to 1966, then moved to Idalou. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. She was a member of Trinity Church in Lubbock and was a Medication Nurse at Methodist Hospital from 1970 to 1983. She is preceded in death by a son, Bob Smithee, who passed away in 2003, and by a daughter, JoDora Smith, who passed away in 1996. Survivors include her husband, William J. Smithee of Idalou; three daughters and their husbands, Jean and James Shurbet of Petersburg, Nancy and Charlie Moore of Lubbock, Judy and Frank Moore of Crosbyton; a brother, D.A. Wims of Blossom, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
