Graveside services for William Jennings Smithee, 93, of Crosbyton, formerly of Idalou, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 in the Crosbyton Cemetery with Rev. Cory Smithee officiating. Burial is under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton. Jennings passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Crosbyton. He was born May 23, 1915 in Crosbyton to William C. "Bill" and Cordia Caldonia (Street) Smithee. On November 9, 1934 he married Nancy Sue Wims in Idalou. She preceded him in death November 27, 2004. Jennings was a member of the Trinity Church in Lubbock and had lived his entire life in the Crosbyton and Idalou area. He owned and operated Smithee Blacksmith and Welding in Crosbyton and Ralls from 1947 to 1964 then worked for Johnson Manufacturing in Lubbock from 1970 to 1981. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He is preceded in death by a son, Bob Smithee in 2003, by a daughter, JoDora Smith in 1996, by two great grandsons, Caleb Kruse in 1996 and Drew Anderson in 2008 and by a brother, Robert Smithee in 1995. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Jean and James Shurbet of Petersburg, Nancy and Charlie Moore of Abilene and Judy and Frank Knox Moore of Crosbyton, one brother, Rev. H. E. Smithee of Winnsboro, 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 PM Monday at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.
