Marguerite was born on August 27, 1923 to Oscar "Doc" Phillips and Minnie Milby Phillips. When Minnie passed away in 1936, Marguerite and her brother, Herbert, went to live with Minnie's family and grew up on the Milby homestead in Edna, Texas. Upon graduation from Edna High School, Marguerite took a bold and brave step for women back then. She moved to San Antonio, Texas, and enrolled in Business College. She eventually moved back to Edna and worked for Judge Sample. She met and married the true love of her life, James Paden "J.P." Curlee on May 10, 1947. Legend has it that J.P. saw Marguerite walking down the sidewalk in Edna and turned to his sister Ethel and said, "I'm going to marry that girl," and he did as quickly as he could talk her into it. They went on to have six children. Theirs was a true love story. We miss you, Mother. NOTE: Bio written by daughter, Debbie Boudar.
