Bio

The Gatesville Messenger and Star Forum; Saturday, 15 Jan 2000; page 4 Mr. Roy Bruton, age 95, of Flat died Wednesday, Jan. 12, in a McGregor nursing home. Services were held Friday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwaine Greene officiating. Interment was in Flint Creek Cemetery. Mr. Bruton was born Aug. 2, 1904, in Coryell County to the late Albert and Susie Burns Bruton. He was reared and attended school at Hubbard and Cold Springs. He was a self-employed carpenter in Coryell County for many years. He married Mamie Clawson on May 24, 1924, and they made their home in the Hubbard community prior to moving to Flat where they resided most of their lives. Mrs. Bruton preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Flat and served many years as a deacon. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Zonnell (Betty) Haynes of Flat; three sons, Mr. Clarence Bruton of Gatesville, Mr. LeRoy Bruton of Killeen and Mr. Gene Bruton of Flat; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. courtesy of K.
