Obituary copied from Wauneta Breeze online newspaper: Arthur 'Art' Bush Arthur Robert Bush was born Nov. 29, 1920, to parents Oral and Laura (Witzke) Bush in Council, Idaho. He was baptized Nov. 7, 1921 at the North Branch Lutheran Church in Syracuse, Neb. Arthur returned to Nebraska with his parents. After the death of his parents, he continued to live and work on the A.J. Irvine Ranch the next five years while attending Hamlet High School. He graduated in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy May 5, 1942, and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger. He received his honorable discharge Oct. 10, 1945. Arthur married Frieda Sommerfeld on Aug. 30, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, Neb. He was confirmed in the faith he was baptized into in January, 1947. His confirmation verse was: "Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life." Rev. 2:10. On May 1, 1949, Art became manager of the A.J. Irvine Ranch north of Hamlet where he and his family lived until moving to Palisade in March of 1991. Art was always willing to help people wherever and whenever he was needed. He was willing to serve on various committees. He was diagnosed with melanoma in 1996 and lost his eye sight within two years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars #7028 and the American Legion #318. Art was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, Neb., at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral and Laura; wife, Frieda; and sister, Pauline Bodeman. He is survived by daughters Laurel Adaire Bush of Helsinki, Finland; Lona and husband, Robert Farrell, of Gray, Maine and Barbara and husband George Cooksley of Anselmo, Neb., and grandchildren Christopher Farrell and Sara Cooksley. He is also survived by one brother, Richard Bush and wife Louise of Kennewick, Wash., brother-in-law Arlie Bodeman of Portland, Ore., and brother-in-law Paul Sommerfeld and wife Leone. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW #7028 or the American Legion Post #318. Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, 2006, at 2 p.m. CT at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade with Pastor Greg Stuck-wisch officiating. Organist was Berneta Steinert. Congregational hymns chosen were "Amazing Grace," "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were Joe Sommerfeld, Tom Sommerfeld, Rob Farrell, Chris Farrell, George Cooksley and Cort Mohr. Interment was at Meadow Lawn Cemetery, Hamlet, Neb., with Carpenter Breland Service in charge of arrangements.
