Services for Dewey W. McElwee, Sr. will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2002 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria with Rev. Ralph Self officiating. Burial will be in Butters Cemetery, Forest Hill. Mr. McElwee, 78, of Lecompte died at 4:45 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2002 in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lecompte, a retired foreman with the Maintenance Department of the Rapides Parish School Board, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. McElwee was preceded in death by his wife, Becky McElwee; two sons, Garland Woodrow McElwee and Donnie Steven McElwee; his parents, Gordon Wilkes and Maude Lucille Hanes McElwee; two brothers, Garland McElwee and Murphy McElwee; one sister, Doris Ferguson; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Survivors include two sons, D.W. McElwee, Jr. and wife Janet of Glenmora and David McElwee and wife Pat of Ville Platte; one daughter, Janice McElwee David and husband Bernie of New Roads; one brother, Milford McElwee of Lecompte and two sisters, Mel Lamkin of Irwinville and Inez Ferguson of Shreveport. He was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be D.W. McElwee, Jr., David McElwee, Duke McElwee, Jeremy McElwee, Bart McElwee, and Brett McElwee.
